Fix a QR code that will not scan or open

Check the artwork, printed size, encoded address, and destination before replacing a QR code.

Find out where the problem starts

A QR code has two jobs: your camera must read its pattern, then your browser must open the address inside it. First, use your phone's camera to scan the code. If no address appears, check the artwork and printing. If an address appears but the page fails, check the link and website instead.

Try typing the short address into a browser. If that also fails, a new QR image will not fix the underlying link. Check whether the link is enabled, expired, renamed, or using a domain that is not connected.

Download the right code

Open the link's details in your dashboard. If no QR section is shown, edit the link, open Advanced settings, enable Generate a QR code, and save. Return to the details page to preview the code and download the SVG file.

The code contains the link's short address, not an instruction to look up its newest name. Confirm the domain and ending before creating final artwork. If you change either part of the address later, old printed codes can still point to the old address. Changing only the saved destination can preserve the same code.

Make the artwork easier to read

Begin with dark code on a plain light background. Keep the empty border around it and leave room between the code and nearby text or images. Avoid stretching, cropping, blurred screenshots, reflective backgrounds, or colors that look too similar.

SVG artwork can be resized cleanly in a suitable design tool. Even so, a neat screen preview does not prove the final print will scan. A small label, curved package, or shiny finish may be harder for a camera to read. Increase the printed size or simplify the design if the intended placement is unreliable.

  1. Print a sample on the material and at the size you intend to use.
  2. Scan it in realistic lighting and from a comfortable distance.
  3. Try another phone when one is available.
  4. Check the address shown by the camera, then open it and complete any waiting page or security check.

Keep printed codes working

Put a readable short address next to the code so people have another way to open it. Add a short explanation, such as View the menu, so readers know what to expect. Test the existing printed code after updating its destination.

Do not set an expiry on a code intended to remain on a lasting sign unless ending access is intentional. Keep its domain renewed and the short link enabled. If you need help, describe whether scanning fails or the page fails after scanning, and include the short address and printed size. Tickets do not accept attachments, so describe the design and any error in the message.
